Issaquah Turkey Trot founders Heather and Tom Matthews started this event in 2010, after residing in Issaquah from 1983 to 2019. Heather grew up in this beautiful city and loved the community. For two years she had participated in the Seattle Turkey Trot and loved it. During her second year participating in the Seattle Turkey Trot, she noticed there were many friends and community members that had driven to Seattle to participate. It was after the event that she decided to bring the Turkey Trot Thanksgiving tradition to Issaquah to help our local neighbors in need.
The first year (2010) they were able to raise $4,000 for the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank and were put to the test with a snow storm on Thanksgiving morning. In the past 11 years, the Issaquah Turkey Trot has raised over $460,000 benefiting the programs and services at the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank.
The Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank has now taken on leadership of the Issaquah Turkey Trot, but still relies heavily on many of Heather & Tom Matthews' wonderful friends and volunteers who have been supporting this huge event for so many years in order to make it an enjoyable and successful experience for everyone.
